The documentary and documented vicissitudes of GUILLERMO LABARCA

Characters in search of an author

Usually the illustrations that are interspersed in the written narratives in some way seek to corroborate what has already been said or to punctuate the stellar moments. Here the opposite occurs and the images are the true body of the story while the texts are limited to accompanying, with an almost clinical rigor, concrete aspects of lives whose range only those animated, successive, reflective portraits allow us to glimpse. Addictive short films in black and white, fascinating as other people's lives always turn out to be when someone stops to look them closely, allowing his, her’s own time to be lost and searched inside their lives. An omniscient and therefore distant author takes notes meticulously. Beings turned into characters appear to us in broad strokes; without complexes, since the complexity of its mere existence is enough. Interestingly, as if by magic, they are installed in our lives forever.

90 Shepherd's Rods by SUSANA GIRON

Journey: real or imaginary trip followed by something or someone

That rabid, fierce, almost brutal colour; the variety of frames and perspectives, the abrupt leap from detail to panorama, from the foreground to the group, in a titanic effort to tell an epic being aware of the impossibility of telling everything when everything matters and nothing should be left out of for us this almost mythological story. The life of before - now just a few - human beings and ‘beasts’ crossing together time and space: since 1273 by the work of a ‘Sage’; until today; between Andalusian plots and the rest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the past and the present in unison that merge these dislocated images, like stumbling and rolling on the ground at times; pressed, as if running to go for the next one that is right there next door: urgency due to the event that is being lived without being able to rest for a single moment; need to compose an experience.
